Carbon Canyon Road Closure In Effect

UPDATE, 9:20 P.M.:  Looks like the two-hour guesstimate was just that.  Traffic seems to be moving freely in both directions, so the accident looks to be cleared.

Carbon Canyon Road is closed right now in both directions because of a traffic accident between Canon Lane and Canyon Hills Road.

Coming in from the Chino Hills side the backup is light and travelers are turned around at Canon Lane, but there are a great many cars on the eastbound side from Brea and there doesn't appear to be anyone at the moment turning them around at Canyon Hills Road.

A brief chat with Sheriff's Department officers at Canon Lane didn't yield too much information, other than that the closure could be up to a couple of hours, thought the officer said he couldn't say for sure.

No other information about the accident could be obtained because they were busy turning people around to head back towards Chino Hills.

Hello Anonymous, Nothing new about the crash has come to light so far, could only see emergency vehicles about 1/8 mile or so east of Canyon Hills Road and maybe a similar distance west of Canon Lane, but that's it. Maybe someone else has better info?

I have only been a resident of Sleepy Hollow for about 18 months. I love this area except . . . the traffic. I have to travel the Brea way to go to work. The traffic has gotten soooo much worse since I've lived here. I leave at 6:15 in the morning and the traffic is non-stop. Turning left onto Carbon Canyon is a chore! Very few are courteous enough to let me in. I feel like I take my life into my hands every morning trying to slip into a spot. Coming home about 4:00 finds the traffic backed up to Valencia almost every day. My point is, with so much traffic and speed, it's no wonder there seems to be so many more accidents. I don't know how long time residents put up with this. The drivers that travel through from Brea to Chino Hills or Chino Hills to Brea seem to have no consideration for the beauty of Carbon Canyon. I wish they would close the road to non-residents. I know. . . but one can dream.

Hello Anonymous, this is all the more reason to be concerned about new efforts in Brea and Chino Hills to seek approval for new housing developments (beyond the 100 already approved on the Chino Hills side) for an additional 270+ units. What would be the proposed mitigation? More traffic lights, which would help no one but those looking to turn onto an increasingly crowded Carbon Canyon Road from the signalized streets. In Sleepy Hollow, signals are not an option, so turning on and off the highway into and out of the community is often a real risk. At a Chino Hills function tonight, a woman was talking about moving from Carbon Canyon after being hit head-on by a driver passing vehicles on the road (passing is not allowed anywhere on the highway) and having her SUV flipped by the Scion that hit her. There are many of these stories. Yet, officialdom on both sides do not take the dangers seriously at all, but will routinely approve new projects that increase the risk. Watch for an application coming soon on the Chino Hills side for 107 houses across from the Circle K on the south side of Carbon Canyon Road. And, also watch for an upcoming decision on the long-delayed and oft-contested Madrona (Canyon Crest) project for 165 units on the Brea side--perhaps by the end of this year.

CFT- I saw this whole situation unravel from canon/low lane. It looks like the tow trucks hauled a silver bmw moments after the accident was cleared. The trucks parked on carbon canyon road just east of canon lane for a significant amount of time.

I was one of the victims in the accident. I was a half block from home, when a woman in a Toyota truck somehow managed to come into my lane, head on, as I was in the heavy traffic headed toward Chino. My car spun, & would have gone down the ravine, except she hit me so hard, it knocked the wheel off the axle, stopping me from going over the edge. My car was totaled. Of course I dint receive enough $ to buy a new car, so now am saddled with a car payment. Much later when I received a copy of the police report, it was noted that a cellphone was in use. I have lived in the canyon for about 15 years & have loved it, but the ever worsening traffic, and these terrible accidents, where the innocents are punished badly (I am one of the lucky ones. Everyone that saw my car couldn't believe I lived through it), are making me seriously consider moving.

Hello Anonymous, thanks very much for leaving a comment and explaining what happened with this accident. Somehow officials on both sides (Brea and Chino Hills) just don't seem to think that there is a problem. And, the use of a cellphone being listed in the police report is another problem, obviously. This blog does what it can to document the issues, but it's up to those in leadership positions to actually do something.
