La Vida Mineral Springs Water Tank Good Samaritan Redux!

For the second time in the last few weeks, a good samaritan (or samaritans, it appears) have stepped forward to eradicate graffiti on the water tank of the La Vida Mineral Springs in Carbon Canyon near Olinda Village.

A post five weeks or so ago noted that graffiti applied weeks before that was painted over.  Then, within a short time, another batch of tagging was applied.

However, in short order, another beautification effort was made, including pink paint to match the historic color of the tank!

Incidentally, the concrete base just below the tank has been crumbling in recent years and the heavy rains, so desperately needed, this past winter have done further erosion, but it's great to see what is left being cared for.

So, once more, many thanks to whoever is doing this community service!

The Good Samaritan for the La Vida Mineral Springs water tank returned this week and painted over the graffiti sprayed on it quite some time ago.

So, thanks to whoever did this good deed yet again!

La Vida Water Tank Vandalized Again

Well, it had been a couple of years or something, but that poor defenseless (and crumbling) La Vida Mineral Springs water tank, which has been precariously perched on the hillside at the western end of that historic resort site on the Brea portion of Carbon Canyon just east of Olinda Village, has been tagged once again.

The photo here was taken three days ago.  In the past, an unknown/anonymous Good Samaritan (or more than one) has always come out and painted over the graffiti to the gratitude of at least some of us.

So, let's hope that this same doer of good deeds does this same this time.

La Vida Mineral Springs Tank: Vandalism or Deterioration?

As noted here several times, the old water tank and associated surviving elements from the historic La Vida Mineral Springs resort on the Brea side of Carbon Canyon managed to remain hidden by overgrown bushes and weeds for many years until the Freeway Complex Fire of November 2008 scorched the area and exposed the tank to view . . . and defacing.

While some good samaritan(s) out there has/have been commendably covering up the many instances of graffiti applied to the tanks and concrete bases over the last six years, it now looks as if there has either been vandalism or creeping deterioration leading to the collapse of a good part of one of the bases.

To some people, this is probably much ado about nothing.  The tank and bases are old and have served no practical purpose for decades.  For others (this blogger included), though, these are the only real visual reminders of La Vida, which had a long and interesting history that still resonates with a good many folks.

In any case, it's sad to see what is, of course, inevitable, if this is a matter of deterioration and sad for other reasons if deliberate.

That didn't take long and just in time for giving thanks to whoever it was who rushed out and quickly painted over the recent marring by graffiti artists of the old water tank at the historic La Vida Mineral Springs resort.

As noted in the post just two days ago, the defacing of the tank had taken place within the last several days and it is great to see such a quick response.

Kudos to the good samaritan who did this!

La Vida Mineral Springs Water Tank's Good Samaritan Again!

Sometime over the last few days, presumably during the weekend, the recent spate of graffiti on the old La Vida Mineral Springs water tank was painted over.

It is assumed this good act was done by the same good samaritan who has covered previous tagging efforts, unless another person took it upon themselves to take on the good deed.

In any case, whoever stepped up, kudos to them.  There is still some graffiti on the side of the base, but who can complain when the worst of it was brushed away!

As noted before, the old tank, dating back many decades, was long hidden from view by the dense growth of plant material before the November 2008 fire, now approaching its fifth anniversary, burned away the cover and exposed the tank to endure several bouts of tagging.

Thanks again to whoever it was who came to its rescue yet again.

Memorializing by Graffiti?

Well, however the previous posts were expressed regarding the death of driver Abel Preciado, who crashed into a power pole in front of the old La Vida Mineral Springs site, and the two roadside memorials that sprung up afterward, the sight yesterday afternoon of the defacing of the surviving La Vida water tank, which has the deceased's first name on it, is a clear indication that someone close to him just couldn't leave well enough alone.

It's one thing to ponder a snap decision that led to tragedy, but deliberation in defacing something that doesn't belong to you actually takes away a lot of the sympathy manifested in the aftermath of mid-September's accident.

Why the two memorials weren't sufficient to express what happened when a tagging seemed like a good idea isn't really worth asking.

Is it too much to ask the good samaritan(s) responsible for painting over previous bouts of graffiti on the old tank to help once again?
